R Family (Indoor photography, collages)

The R Family met with me in mid November (I know, I know, just a little behind in posting ;) ).  Despite my gentle encouragement, they declined to do photos outside.  Although who could really blame them with temperatures barely reaching teen digits during the day!  So instead, they became my very first FAMILY indoor photo session.  As most photographers, my preference will always be outdoor, natural light photography, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results of their photos.  Would you guess that their pictures were taken in my living room?  I have a mini "studio" set up, but opted  instead to take advantage of the many windows we have in our living room and try to optimize as much natural light as possible.  We were all happy with the results!  (And I will say, I learned a LOT).

And what if you just have too many pictures that you like and can't decide (because if you're like me, you've already run out of wall space for pictures and now you're contemplating mounting them to the ceiling-ha)?  COLLAGES!  I love collages!  They are such a great way to show the variety of faces a child has, or capture a special moment (like when little miss A (see below) has decided she just can't muster one more smile, but then daddy's hugs and tickles bring that sparkle back out-LOVE!).

O Family Sneak Peek

The weather in South Dakota has been less than ideal for outdoor photography these last few weeks (at least for the little kiddos)...brrrrrr!  The O Family met with me last Friday and managed to smile through the wind on the bridge!  Such a beautiful family!

Little Miss I

This little peanut wanted to be anywhere but taking pictures.  Good thing her mama's smile and voice always (well, almost always) make her smile!

C Family

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of taking family pictures of this wonderful family.  They were a joy to work with and the little man was such a sport-despite no afternoon nap.  What a trooper!

Now that trick or treating is done and all the children have retired their costumes until next fall (although mine will most likely play with theirs well into the new year), retailers are consumed with preparing for the next big money maker....CHRISTMAS!  In fact, two nights BEFORE Halloween, I sent my husband to pick up a bag of candy and Walmart had already replaced the Halloween candy with Christmas candy in the seasonal aisle.  I have to admit that I have my own guilty pleasure of listening to Christmas music as early as July.  I mean, I can't be the only one to sing "Fa, la, la, la la" with toes dipped in the sand, right?!

But the time is finally upon us...the weather is getting colder, the pretty fall leaves are mostly gone and we have entered the lovely month of November.

I can confidently say it feels appropriate to begin (or maybe panic if this is the first time you're thinking of your Christmas list) thinking of HOLIDAY Photo Mini Session!  Within the next few weeks I will be posting more information of a date and time in November that I will be doing my mini sessions.

Feel free to email me at rachaelengelphotography@gmail.com if you'd like to set up a mini session (limited spots available).
